Romania faces a potential diesel shortage this winter as prices have surged nearly 40% since the beginning of the year. The average price of diesel reached 10.90 lei per liter, marking the highest in history. The analysis by economic think tank Frames indicates that the global diesel crisis may persist for another year, with Romania's supply heavily reliant on vulnerable transport routes. Current emergency reserves, while technically sufficient for 90 days, do not equate to 90 days of fuel at the pumps. Over half of these reserves consist of crude oil and raw materials, not finished products. The expert warns that regional shortages could emerge as early as December, emphasizing the need for a strategic plan to secure supply and manage prices effectively.
