An international team reconstructed the face of a Homo sapiens who lived around 315,000 years ago using fossils from Morocco. The study, led by Brazilian Cícero Moraes, was published in Heritage. The model depicts a man with a broad face and robust bone structure, showing both modern and archaic features. The reconstruction utilized a composite skull from the Jebel Irhoud site, with additional remains for missing regions. Two versions were created: a neutral gray model and a colored artistic representation. The study emphasizes that the colored version is not an exact portrait, as skin and hair colors cannot be determined from fossils. Jebel Irhoud is crucial for understanding modern human origins, with fossils dating back to 315,000 years, pushing back the timeline of Homo sapiens existence.
