Bulgaria and Romania are collaborating on a joint monitoring system for the Danube River, aimed at early warning for floods and droughts. The project, valued at €17.5 million, will enhance data collection and improve disaster preparedness. It includes restoring natural floodplain terraces to mitigate flood risks and support ecosystem health. The initiative is funded largely by the European Regional Development Fund under the INTERREG VI-A program. Key Bulgarian and Romanian institutions are involved in the project, which aims to improve cross-border information exchange for better disaster response.
