Romanians are bracing for a new wave of price increases as inflation is expected to rise again by the end of the year. The National Bank of Romania warns that inflation will exceed the initial forecast of 6.1%, currently standing at 6.6%. Rising fuel prices and geopolitical conflicts are contributing to this inflationary pressure. Experts predict that economic recovery will be slow, with significant risks ahead. Prices in Romania have nearly doubled since 2017, particularly for electricity and food. The highest inflation rate recorded was 13.8% in 2023, with recent shocks from energy market liberalization and increased excise duties.
