The German army's future drone regiment is set to be fully operational by 2029, according to Army Chief Christian Freuding. The unit will consist of five or six companies with various capabilities, including close combat and long-range systems. Additionally, there will be companies focused on electronic warfare and drone defense. Freuding emphasized the importance of having a dedicated testing and evaluation company within the regiment. The initial operational capability is expected by 2027, starting with around 350 personnel, eventually expanding to 600. The regiment may be integrated into existing structures or operate independently.
