A Salmonella outbreak linked to imported jalapeño peppers from Mexico has sickened 345 people across 27 U.S. states, prompting an investigation by health authorities. Coast Citrus Distributors has recalled the affected peppers supplied to restaurants like Chipotle and QDOBA. The CDC and FDA reported 36 hospitalizations but no deaths related to the outbreak. The illnesses began around June 19 and continued until July 20, with symptoms including diarrhea and fever. The FDA has confirmed that Chipotle switched suppliers for jalapeños on July 20, while QDOBA stopped using them on July 28. The outbreak is associated with peppers from Sinaloa, Mexico, known for its drug cartel.
