The Home Office reported that total arrivals for 2026 reached 18,565, a 42% decrease from the same period in 2025. Despite the drop, concerns were raised after two boats evaded Border Force patrols, prompting an urgent review by Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. Education Minister Lucy Powell acknowledged the challenges in stopping all crossings but emphasized ongoing efforts to address the situation. The government is working with French partners to improve border security.
