The flu and respiratory infection season has officially started in Sibiu County, showing a significant increase in cases compared to last year. In the first week of monitoring, 1,959 acute respiratory infections were reported, 566 more than the same period last year, along with two confirmed flu cases. The local health authority began monitoring on September 28, 2026. Most infections were among children and young adults, but hospitalizations remained low, with only 68 patients admitted. Additionally, 278 pneumonia cases were reported, leading to 121 hospitalizations, particularly among the elderly. Over 5,600 residents have received flu vaccinations, with health officials emphasizing the importance of vaccination for high-risk groups. To prevent the spread of infections, frequent handwashing and proper hygiene practices are recommended.
