The water temperature has reached around 32 degrees Celsius, leading to the death of up to 90% of shellfish in some areas. The situation is dire in the Sacca di Goro lagoon, where shellfish mortality has surged. Increased water temperatures reduce dissolved oxygen and promote excessive algae growth, complicating fishing activities. The sector is also recovering from the invasive blue crab, which has caused substantial losses. Experts warn that climate change is leading to annual losses of about 200 million euros in Italy's professional fishing sector, threatening both seafood production and ecosystem balance.
