Anularea alegerilor din România, analizată de Comisia de la Veneţia. Marta Cartabia: „Aceasta este principala provocare pentru democraţia noastră”

Marta Cartabia, the President of the Venice Commission, emphasized the challenges to democracy posed by social media and digital platforms during a recent forum. She highlighted Romania's experience with the annulment of the 2024 presidential election results as a significant reflection point on national security threats affecting democracies. Cartabia noted the need for legal limits on power, which are increasingly disregarded, and the rise of private actors influencing public discourse through algorithms. She warned against the mentality that the winning majority can impose decisions without considering opposition voices, stressing the importance of including youth perspectives in democratic processes.
