As of June 2026, Romania has nearly 360,000 registered prosumers, primarily individuals, reflecting a growing interest in energy self-production and storage. The installed power capacity is 4,019 MW, with a significant portion from individual prosumers. The trend indicates a shift towards a more flexible and sustainable energy system, with many prosumers opting for energy storage solutions. Former Energy Minister Virgil Popescu highlighted the importance of prosumers in the energy landscape, especially during challenging conditions affecting traditional energy sources.
