A polar air mass has caused a significant drop in temperatures across Romania, with record lows recorded on July 22. The National Meteorological Administration reported that 21 weather stations recorded the lowest maximum temperatures since measurements began. In Bucharest, temperatures fell to 17.4°C, breaking previous records. Although recent temperatures are much lower than the average for July, historical absolute minimums were not surpassed. The cold weather is expected to persist for several days, but a return to high temperatures above 35°C is anticipated next week.
