Animalele legendare care au stăpânit pădurile Carpaților. Cum au dispărut bourii și au fost salvați zimbrii
Romania is home to one of Europe's largest populations of bison, with nearly 400 individuals reintroduced in the Carpathians since 1958. In contrast, the aurochs, a legendary animal, has been extinct for centuries. The bison were brought from Poland to Romania, where they have successfully bred in reserves. The population has grown, with over 250 bison now living freely in the Tarcu Mountains. Historical accounts describe the aurochs as powerful and elusive, with their last known populations disappearing in the late medieval period. The bison, however, continue to thrive, supported by conservation efforts and reintroduction programs.
