The National Integrity Agency (ANI) has identified 55 public officials facing definitive incompatibility or conflict of interest findings, which will lead to the automatic termination of their mandates within 30 days under the new Law 180/2026. This includes 10 mayors and 17 local and county councilors. The law, effective from August 28, 2026, imposes stricter penalties for violations, with fines ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 lei. The ANI will actively monitor compliance and can conduct on-site checks to ensure that affected individuals leave their positions. The law aims to enhance public integrity and aligns with Romania's commitments under the PNRR.
