Andreas Babler va renunţa anul viitor la funcţia de vicecancelar al Austriei şi la şefia social-democraţilor • Newsweek România

Andreas Babler, Austria's Vice Chancellor, announced his resignation from both his governmental role and the leadership of the Social Democratic Party next year due to increasing dissatisfaction within the party and declining poll numbers. The Social Democrats are currently the second party in a coalition government led by conservative Chancellor Christian Stocker. Despite being excluded from power, the far-right Freedom Party has gained popularity, now polling around 38%. Babler's decision comes amid speculation about his future, as recent polls show the Social Democrats at 15%, a significant drop from previous elections. He emphasized the need to end public debates about leadership to refocus the party's efforts. Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer will succeed him as Vice Chancellor early next year, coinciding with Babler's resignation from party leadership.
