The Romanian tax authority, ANAF, reported a record collection of 267.6 billion lei in the first half of the year, an increase of 22.4 billion lei compared to the same period in 2025. VAT collections rose by 25.9%, totaling 64.8 billion lei. Despite these gains, Minister Alexandru Nazare emphasized the need for improved performance in certain sectors to combat tax evasion and enhance compliance. He also highlighted the importance of responsible public spending, warning against unsustainable expenditures. A forthcoming evaluation by S&P will assess Romania's financial stability.
