This year's severe drought has led to unprecedented agricultural challenges in Arad County, with corn production expected to be among the lowest in 30 years. Nearly 3,000 farmers reported damage to spring crops, with over 63,500 hectares declared disaster-stricken. Corn cultivation has decreased to 40,470 hectares, about half of last year's area, and average yields are projected between 2,000 and 2,500 kilograms per hectare. In severely affected areas, yields may drop to as low as 500 kilograms. The drought has also impacted other crops, including sunflowers and vegetables, with significant losses reported across 57 administrative units. The situation follows a particularly poor year in 2022, raising concerns about farmers' incomes and production costs amid ongoing drought conditions.
