A new legislative proposal in Romania aims to impose hefty fines on beachgoers who ignore swimming restrictions and lifeguard instructions. If passed, individuals entering prohibited areas could face fines up to 1,500 lei, while those who refuse to leave the water when asked by lifeguards may incur penalties of up to 3,000 lei. Parents allowing minors to swim in restricted zones would also be subject to similar fines. Beach administrators are not exempt, facing potential fines of up to 30,000 lei for failing to properly mark swimming areas. The proposal is currently under parliamentary review and has not yet become law.
