Ambasadorul Muntenegrului cere criterii obiective pentru noile garanții impuse viitorilor membri ai UE

Montenegro advocates for stricter guarantees for future EU members to uphold democratic standards post-accession, emphasizing the need for objective criteria. Ambassador Petar Marković highlighted the importance of preventing regression in democracy, as seen in Hungary, and stressed that potential violations should be assessed individually. He argued that these criteria should be established before accession and should not limit new members' rights during the transition. Marković also noted the ongoing discussions about changing the EU enlargement methodology, supporting gradual integration for candidate countries. He expressed concern that altering the rules now would be unfair to Montenegro, which has been in the accession process for 14 years.
