Only about two-thirds of children are vaccinated according to national schemes, and former Health Minister Alexandru Rafila does not expect a quick improvement. He emphasizes the need for family doctors to take responsibility in identifying and informing about missed vaccinations. The low vaccination rate is attributed to misinformation, administrative issues, limited access to services, and poor health education. Rafila notes that only around two-thirds of family doctors are actively involved in the National Vaccination Electronic Register. He advocates for a focus on accountability rather than coercion, stressing the importance of resources and education. Additionally, he highlights the significance of preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections in infants, suggesting maternal vaccination during pregnancy to transfer antibodies to the fetus. This prevention can reduce severe infection risks and hospitalizations, benefiting families and the healthcare system.
