The National Committee for Emergency Situations (CNSU) has approved the urgent deployment of barges on the Danube to redirect water flow to the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. This measure aims to address the critical drop in the Danube's water level, which threatens the cooling systems of the operational reactors. A temporary barrier of ships will be anchored to ensure sufficient water depth for the cooling pumps. Experts emphasize that maintaining optimal cooling water flow is essential for safe reactor operation. The CNSU's decision comes as further decreases in the Danube's flow are expected, necessitating a modular and reversible intervention plan.
