A unit of the Temelin nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic was unexpectedly shut down due to a malfunction. The operator, CEZ, reported that Reactor 2 was disconnected from the grid after a control system issue was detected. Technicians replaced a faulty electronic board and further checks are ongoing, with operations expected to resume on Thursday. Reactor 1 remains operational at full capacity. Reactor 2 had just been restarted in April after maintenance, with plans for it to run for 16 months before the next revision. The plant has two WWER 1000/320 reactors, and there are concerns about its reliability due to the mix of Russian and American technology. The Czech Republic aims to increase its nuclear energy share significantly by 2040.
