In the first eight months of this year, Bucharest recorded 24 serious bicycle accidents, a 20% increase compared to last year. During this period, 24 individuals were seriously injured, while one sustained minor injuries, with no fatalities reported. This contrasts with 2025, which saw one cyclist death and 19 serious injuries. Nationally, 101 cyclists died last year, averaging one death every three and a half days. Cyclists share the road with various vehicles but lack the physical protection of cars, making them vulnerable. The Coalition for Road Safety emphasizes the need for both protection and responsibility among all road users. Vulnerable road users accounted for over 46% of fatalities last year. The Coalition aims to reduce accidents and improve road safety in Romania by 2030.
