Alertă de la București: Ministerul Energiei notifică oficial Comisia Europeană, din cauza secetei severe • Newsweek România

Romania has issued an early warning to the European Commission due to severe drought affecting the Danube River's hydrological conditions. The Ministry of Energy assures that the current lack of rainfall does not negatively impact the domestic electricity market. The alert will remain until weather conditions improve, with forecasts suggesting this may not occur before August 15, 2026. The drought has already led to the disconnection of Unit 1 at the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant. Meteorological warnings for extreme heat have been issued, particularly in western Romania, with a red alert in effect since August 2. The low water levels in the Danube pose risks to the cooling systems of the nuclear plant, potentially affecting national energy supply.
