Aleksandr Lukaşenko a graţiat 13 prizonieri politici

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko pardoned 13 prisoners convicted of "extremist crimes," a term often used for political prisoners. The list of those released was not disclosed. This decision follows a trend of releasing prisoners amid renewed dialogue with the U.S. under Donald Trump. Last week, 25 political prisoners were freed in exchange for lifting U.S. sanctions on Belarusian companies. Despite these releases, hundreds remain imprisoned from the 2020 protests against Lukashenko's re-election. Human rights group Viasna claims there are still 886 political prisoners in Belarus. Opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya warned the U.S. against resuming trade with Belarus, linking it to support for Russia's war in Ukraine. Trump also mentioned a potential large potassium deal with Belarus amid trade disputes with Canada.
