The Romanian Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) has proposed new rules for potential early parliamentary elections, including shorter deadlines and reduced signature requirements for candidates. The campaign period will remain 30 days, while the elections must occur within three months of Parliament's dissolution. The government would have five days to make necessary decisions post-dissolution, including setting the election date. AEP aims to adapt the electoral framework to ensure accessibility for candidates despite the shortened timeline. Additionally, registration for voters abroad will start three days after dissolution, with mail-in voting registration closing 45 days before the election. AEP emphasizes that these changes are preparatory and not indicative of imminent elections.
