Al 3-lea oraș ca mărime din România a pus „tomberoane de gunoi” inteligente de 4,9 milioane €. Nu funcționează • Newsweek România

The third largest city in Romania has installed smart waste bins costing €4.9 million, but they are non-functional due to the lack of a dedicated IT system. Mayor Mihai Chirica stated that the bins, funded by European grants, cannot be used until the Ministry of Environment activates the necessary software to manage the data for reporting to the European Commission. The smart bins, designed for separate waste collection, were purchased in January 2026 but remain idle, prompting calls for urgent action from the Ministry to make the system operational.
