The Romanian government plans to reduce state aid for fuel used by transporters when general excise tax cuts are applied. A new regulation proposes that the aid, currently at 85 bani/liter, will decrease as the excise tax reduction increases. For instance, if the excise tax is cut by 15%, the aid would drop to 71 bani/liter, and further reductions would lower it to 57 and 43 bani/liter for 20% and 25% cuts, respectively. This change aims to comply with EU tax minimums and avoid infringement procedures. The scheme continues to support freight and passenger transporters amid rising fuel prices, with no additional budget impact expected. The proposal is pending government approval.
