In 2026, Romanian cattle and buffalo breeders will receive state aid of 68 euros per animal, with a maximum of 50,000 euros per beneficiary, to offset rising costs due to the Middle East crisis. The total budget for this scheme is 54.4 million euros, approved by the European Commission under the METSAF framework. To qualify, breeders must own at least 10 eligible animals by March 1, 2026, and maintain a certain percentage of their herd until verification. Applications will be managed by the APIA, which will centralize the beneficiaries and funds.
