AI creează primele virusuri sintetice. Genomică și Biologie
Scientists in the US have successfully used AI to create synthetic viruses, marking a significant advancement in biotechnology. This breakthrough raises important questions about biological safety and biosecurity. The research team at Stanford University developed a generative AI program called Evo 2, which can rewrite genomes and has already produced 16 synthetic bacteriophages. These phages have shown greater efficacy against E. coli compared to existing models. While the technology holds promise for future applications in medicine and agriculture, the researchers emphasize their commitment to safety and do not plan to commercialize their findings at this time.
