The Permanent Electoral Authority (AEP) has proposed a new political party law to replace the existing one from 2003, aiming to reform the legal framework for political parties in Romania. The draft includes 77 articles and addresses party formation, registration, and internal organization. Key changes involve increasing the minimum number of founding members from 3 to 100, transferring registration authority from courts to AEP, and implementing stricter rules to prevent misleading party names. The law also introduces term limits for party leaders and protections for members facing disciplinary actions. Observations on the draft can be submitted until September 20, with potential enactment by January 2027.
