German energy company RWE has decided to withdraw from its offshore wind projects in the U.S. after reaching a $1.2 billion agreement with the U.S. Department of the Interior. The company will reinvest this amount into conventional natural gas projects, including a $900 million LNG export terminal in Louisiana. RWE stated that obtaining necessary permits for these projects in the U.S. is unlikely in the foreseeable future. This decision aligns with the Trump administration's ongoing efforts to halt offshore wind initiatives, as Trump has consistently criticized wind energy. RWE plans to invest approximately €17 billion in the U.S. over the next six years to expand its energy production capacity.
