The Câineni and Lotrioara hydropower plants have received environmental approval, but their completion relies on land expropriations and technical updates. Energy production may start in a few years. The Ministry of Environment issued the environmental permit for the Cornetu-Avrig hydroelectric project on the Olt River, crucial for project continuation. However, further administrative steps are needed before the plants can operate. The environmental approval may face legal challenges, potentially causing delays. Current estimates suggest Câineni will be completed by 2031 and Lotrioara by 2032, with ongoing construction at 25% and 1%, respectively. The project aims to produce 156.8 GWh annually, supporting over 52,000 households.
