The Romanian government has temporarily reduced the excise duty on standard diesel by 20% from August 16 to 31, 2026, in response to rising international prices. This reduction will save drivers approximately 68 bani per liter, translating to about 34 lei for a full tank. Transporters and farmers will also benefit significantly from these savings. The Ministry of Finance will reassess the situation every two weeks to adjust the excise duty as needed, aiming to mitigate the impact of external price shocks on the economy.
