The Ministry of Finance announced a 25% reduction in diesel excise duty for the period of September 1-15, 2026, following a previous 20% cut. This adjustment aims to alleviate the impact of rising international fuel prices on consumers and the economy. The new excise rate will be 2,103.22 lei per 1,000 liters, reflecting a decrease of 701.07 lei. The decision is part of a dynamic mechanism established by Law no. 162/2026, which allows for bi-weekly evaluations of fuel prices. The minister emphasized that this temporary measure is designed to mitigate fiscal pressure on fuel prices, particularly in the transport and logistics sectors.
