The Romanian Academy elected seven new honorary members, including two from Romania and five from abroad, during its session on October 14, 2026. Notable figures include philosopher Adrian-Paul Iliescu, filmmaker Stere Gulea, mathematician Dan Burghelea, Nobel laureate Randy W. Schekman, geophysicist Mioara Mandea, researcher Boris Găină from Moldova, and composer Vladimir Cosma. This selection acknowledges their significant contributions across various fields such as philosophy, cinema, mathematics, biology, geophysics, agricultural sciences, and music. The Academy serves as Romania's highest national body for scientific and cultural recognition, with a maximum of 135 honorary members allowed.
