The Transylvania Highway may see a significant milestone in 2026 with nearly 100 kilometers opened if the Chiribiș-Biharia section is completed by December. This 28.55-kilometer segment, built by Precon Transilvania and Citadina 98, is currently 80% finished, with rapid progress being made to meet the deadline. Recent reports indicate that 90% of the asphalt has been laid, and over 500 workers are on-site. If all planned openings occur, the total for 2026 could reach approximately 97 kilometers. The project has faced delays since its inception in 2004, with multiple contractors involved over the years. The current contract was signed in April 2024, with a completion target of May 2027, but early opening is anticipated.
