The owner received a fine of approximately €9,590, while the managing company was fined €6,350 for violating food safety laws. Initially sentenced to a year in prison, the owner’s punishment was reduced due to his guilty plea and lack of prior convictions. The court noted that tests on the ants revealed excessive heavy metals. The case came to light after the food safety ministry found online reviews featuring the controversial dessert, which had been served for nearly four years. Although ants are banned in South Korea, they are considered a delicacy in various regions worldwide.
