Ileana Cotrubaș, a renowned Romanian soprano, passed away at 87, leaving a significant legacy in the world of opera. She gained international fame in 1975 when she replaced Mirella Freni in 'La Bohème' at La Scala, Milan, after a last-minute request from Luciano Pavarotti. Born in Galați in 1939, she began her musical training at a young age and debuted in 1964 at the Bucharest Opera. Cotrubaș performed at prestigious venues worldwide, including the Vienna State Opera and the Metropolitan Opera.
