Georgy Matyukhin, the first president of the Bank of Russia, has passed away at 92, recognized as a key figure in shaping the Russian banking system. He previously worked in the USSR's State Planning Committee and the International Investment Bank. Matyukhin led the Central Bank of the RSFSR from December 1990 until mid-1992, during which he oversaw the issuance of the 5000-ruble banknote, uniquely signing it. After leaving the Central Bank, he held positions in various banks, contributing significantly to the foundation of modern Russian banking. He was referred to as the 'main banker of Russia' by the economic press.
