Ioan Bohancanu, the mayor of Beba Veche, passed away on October 2, 2023, after serving nearly three decades in office. He was 66 years old and had been a prominent figure in local politics since 1996, with a brief interruption from 2000 to 2004. Bohancanu was an agronomist by profession and had recently secured his seventh term in the 2024 local elections, representing a coalition of PSD and PNL. Throughout his career, he focused on infrastructure projects for the community, including a new school and water treatment facilities. Beba Veche is known as the westernmost locality in Romania, located near the borders with Hungary and Serbia.
