Klaus Hänsch, former President of the European Parliament and advocate for Romania's EU accession, passed away at 87. He served as President from 1994 to 1997 and was an MEP for three decades. His death was announced by Roberta Metsola and the SPD in North Rhine-Westphalia. Hänsch was a strong supporter of European integration, viewing it as a peace project. He played a key role in Romania's EU accession process, advocating for its membership and participating in crucial votes. His leadership coincided with Romania's official EU application, and he contributed to enhancing the Parliament's power during his tenure.
