Italian photographer Franco Fontana, known for his abstract landscapes, passed away at 92. He pioneered color photography in the 1960s, influenced by abstract expressionism and minimalism. His iconic works feature vibrant rural and coastal scenes from southern Italy, often highlighting isolated elements. Fontana also captured urban landscapes in Italy and the U.S., focusing on clear lines and shadows. Born in Modena, he remained connected to his hometown throughout his life. His global recognition includes over 400 exhibitions and works displayed in more than 50 museums. A major retrospective of his career is set for December 2024 to August 2025 in Rome.
