Dumitru Marcu, a former Romanian international footballer and two-time national champion with Universitatea Craiova, has passed away at 76. He scored 63 goals for the club between 1972 and 1980. The Romanian Football Federation and the Professional Football League announced his death on August 13, 2026, and a moment of silence will be observed in his honor during the fifth round of the Romanian Superliga. Born on April 9, 1950, Marcu played 16 matches for the national team, scoring three goals. He was a champion in the 1973-1974 and 1979-1980 seasons and won two Romanian Cups in 1977 and 1978. Marcu also played for Steaua București and Gloria Buzău.
