Revolut and Visa have conducted the first secure payment initiated by an AI agent in France, allowing AI to handle purchases with user consent. The experiment tested AI's ability to complete transactions while maintaining user control over finances. The AI agent can navigate the purchasing process and initiate payments, authenticated through Visa Payment Passkey. Visa is developing infrastructure for 'agentic commerce', enabling AI to search for products and make purchases within user-defined limits. The test utilized existing payment security measures, ensuring identity verification and fraud monitoring remain active. This reflects a growing trend of generative AI in shopping, with 51% of the French population using such tools.
