Swiss cellist Samuel Niederhauser won the First Prize at the George Enescu International Competition 2026, impressing the jury and audience with his performance. He also received the Audience Award and a prize for the best interpretation of the imposed work. Niederhauser performed on a 1690 Carlo Giuseppe Testore cello, which he borrowed for the competition. The event featured other finalists, with Joshua Kováč and Sanghyeok Park taking second and third places, respectively. The competition attracted a record number of participants and aims to support young musicians. The next edition will take place in 2027 and 2028, providing further opportunities for the winners.
