90 de ani de la brevetarea invenției care avea să schimbe definitiv șofatul. Cum arăta primul „etilotest”

Ninety years ago, Rolla Neil Harger patented the Drunkometer, the first breathalyzer, paving the way for modern alcohol testing devices. Harger, a biochemistry professor, invented the device in 1931 and received the patent in 1936. The Drunkometer measured alcohol concentration in exhaled air, providing a more objective method for law enforcement to assess driver intoxication. Harger also contributed to legislation on chemical testing for intoxication. The Drunkometer led to the development of the Breathalyzer in 1954, which is now compact and efficient. Harger passed away in 1983, and in 2020, Indiana University honored his contributions.
