The European Union has initiated a bidding process to establish up to seven AI gigafactories across Europe, aiming to enhance technological sovereignty and investment in AI infrastructure. This initiative, supported by EU and national funds, is expected to unlock significant private investments and improve AI capabilities for various sectors. The gigafactories will integrate advanced AI processors and energy-efficient data centers, ensuring compliance with EU standards. Consortia can apply for funding, with a competitive evaluation process in place. The first projects are anticipated to begin operations by 2028.
