30.000 de țânțari sterili eliberați în Lisabona contra febrei dengue

Thirty thousand sterile male Asian tiger mosquitoes have been released in Alvalade, Lisbon, as part of a final test to reduce the population of Aedes albopictus, which spreads dengue, Zika, and yellow fever. This project aims to assess the impact of releasing these mosquitoes on the breeding of the species, as mating with sterile males does not produce offspring. Previous releases have occurred, totaling 60,000 mosquitoes, and this is the last of its kind. The focus is on understanding the behavior and survival of the released mosquitoes, with further research planned if initial results are positive.
