Romania has completed the financial stage for increasing the portfolio guarantee for resilience by 200 million euros, aimed at facilitating bank financing for SMEs. The contribution was paid on August 28, and the next step is to operationalize the funds for partner banks, which will create new financing opportunities. This increase follows a consistent market interest in such guarantees, with the existing ceiling being utilized rapidly. Since its launch in 2023, around 2,000 SMEs have accessed approximately 610 million euros for business development and sustainable projects. The mechanism, part of the InvestEU program, allows the state to assume some risk, enabling banks to finance companies that might struggle to obtain credit otherwise. The extension of this tool will support productive investments and the transition to more sustainable business models.
